'Alert me' button not available in SharePoint 2010 lists
A couple of days ago I was playing around in SharePoint 2010. I wanted to place an alert on a document library but noticed the "Alert me" button just wasn't there. It was available though in the ribbon when watching a page. The reason for this is that you probably don't have an outgoing SMTP server configured in the central administration. Just configure it there and you will see the button!

thanx, helped me a lot!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis is because the Outgoing Mail settings are not configured in the server farm. This should however not be the case if the farm has been set up correctly from the beginning. This must always be one of the first configurations to be done when a ne farm is configured.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenTo configure this, Open Central administration and edit the Settings under the System Settings heading.
Enter the relevant information in the fields displayed under the Configure outgoing e-mail settings.
Click ok and the Alert Me button will now be visible on the ribbon.
